Environmental Burden Reduction of Environmental Burden The Kurabo Group, in the view point of global environmental conservation, is proactively implementing environmental measures in various fields, including those regarding global warming, air, water, and wastes. ◆ Prevention of Global Warming In addition to promoting energy-saving activities, the Group works on reduction of global greenhouse gas (CO2) by utilizing natural energy and converting fuel (heavy oil to gas), etc.  Also, we are promoting greening activity in the plant premises. Despite an increase in production, the total CO2 emission in FY2010 was controlled for only a fractional increase. For Kurabo alone, emission during FY2010 was reduced by 3.1% over FY2009 and by 61.8% compared to FY1990. * As the emission factor of electric power, "0.555kg-CO2/kWh" is always used in calculation of CO2 emission. ◆ Prevention of Air Pollution & Prevention of Water Pollution Reduction of environmental burden is actively promoted for preventing air pollution and water pollution.  Air pollutants (SOx, NOx, dust, etc.) are all on a declining trend and the COD emission remains stably below the regulated level. * SOx, NOx: Collective terms for sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. Typical air pollutants generated by combustion of fossil fuel COD: Chemical oxygen demand.  Amount of oxygen required to purify waste water.  Index of water contamination ◆ Waste Reduction & Promotion of Zero Emission As a result of Group-wide efforts by setting the "promotion of Zero Emission" as an environmental target, the amount of wastes to be landfilled has been decreasing year by year.  The recycling rate (percentage of wastes that are reused by other companies) of the entire group reached 97% in fiscal 2010.
